Getting A Dog to Overcome Shyness Through Jack Russell Training

Shyness in a dog is something that must not be allowed to take root or last for the long-run. In the dog that is manifesting the signs, Jack Russell training will need to be implemented. But one surprising fact is that many dog owners actually find it challenging how to determine that their dog is suffering from shyness, and not from what appears to be signs of abuse, or neglect.

Extreme shyness is considered a fault in the jack russell terrier breed, and need to be quashed in breeding. But what happens out there is that the degrees of shyness actually only varies from dog to dog. Owners may encounter some extreme cases that take time to understand, like the above situation of a dog that seem to have suffered from abuse (yet could not actually have suffered so), but instead is actually shy.

There are a lot of Jack Russell training methods and strategies for helping alleviate the inhibition and other negative emotions of a shy dog. But Jack Russell Training is no magic bullet or cure-all; a trainer-handler can put in considerable time and effort, yet the dog shows no chance of being totally confident in a crowd. Sometimes, the dog is just reserved, which means that the dog simply wants to take time greeting and checking on visitors before extending a full welcome. The least that training can do though, is to help the dog to overcome its terror.

A trick for socializing some dogs is to have a stranger give the dog a treat under the owner’s supervision. Through this method, a dog is able to overcome inhibitions, and learns to welcome strangers. But as long as the dog simply whisks the treat, and also avoids petting, the dog is still afraid and needs more encouragement. Of course the dog does not have to be forced to be petted, so what you can do is to hold out your fingers ahead of the hand holding on to the treat. Done properly, the dog will need to rub against your free hand so as to nibble on the treat held in your other hand.
