How To Stop Your Dog From Barking

Have you ever been aggravated in trying to deal with your dog’s barking? Have you ever found yourself creating as much noise as your dog, yelling at her trying to get her to stop barking? Well don’t give up as there are options.

When it comes to training your dog in the area of bark control there are various routes that you can take and so many times it comes down to a personal decision or approach. The crucial thing to recognize though with any training, is that your dog must figure out that she needs to heed you as you are the master. Rewards are a simple yet effective way of making this point.

When it comes to dog training you must also carry it out it in such a way that your dog does not become frightened of you. Just think about it.  I doubt if you’d heed someone if you felt threatened by them. So you will find greater methods.

So for stop dog barking training, start by considering why it is your dog is barking. There are times when it’s acceptable for your dog to bark and she should therefore be afforded that right. It’s the unnecessary, uncontrollable barking that you want stopped. The primary thing is to help your dog see the difference between the two.

In efforts to get dogs to turn the bark off, many have turned to bark collars that deliver a small electrical current when the dog barks. There are different types out there that have different functionality in when the shock is generated and variations in strength. While many rave about how well they work as bark deterrents, with the technology age that we’re in, it seems there could be a better approach.

With that in mind, another option that manufacturers have developed is the citronella bark collar. With these collars, after a dog barks, the device on the collar sprays citronella into the air in front of the dog. Because dogs do not like the citronella smell they learn to stop barking to escape from the smell. Though this seems a more humane way of bark control, it might not be the first choice for an indoor dog silencer.

An alternative to the bark collars to stop dog barking is an ultrasonic sound device. With these devices a sound frequency detected by dogs, though inaudible to humans, is given off when they start barking. Hearing this sound interrupts their barking and causes them to settle down. This system can serve duo purpose if other dogs are causing your dog to bark, as it will silence them as well.

These ultrasonic dog barking devices have become well-liked with people who aren’t even dog owners, but have neighbours who have not taken the time to train their yappy dogs not to bark. They will put the device close enough to be activated by the dog’s barking and it’ll do its thing; a subtle method to turn the bark off.

Remember dogs are dogs and barking is what they do. Your goal is to have them bark appropriately, not cease it altogether. Positive reinforcement goes a long way in training your dog. So whatever method of bark control you choose to employ, applaud your dog for not barking when she is quiet and you may be pleasantly surprised at how discriminating your dog becomes in choosing when to bark.
