Jack Russell Terrier Training – The Drop It Command

Just because they are identified as highly intelligent breed does not imply that they can do nicely without jack russell terrier training. Each dog, no matter what breed, needs to undergo proper training to make them a joy to be with.

Since jack russell terriers were bred to track down quarry from their dens, hence, it is not unusual if you’ll find it hard to get your canine friend give up, leave or drop something he should not have. But hard as it may seem, you really need to train your pet commands such as these to make certain that he is free from danger all the time. You wouldn’t want your precious terrier to nibble on other dog’s poop, right?

The right time to begin training this command is when he is playing with his toy. Get his interest by holding a treat in front of his nose. Naturally he will drop the toy in exchange of treat. Repeat the procedure and once he became accustomed to dropping the toy every time he sees a treat, pop in the command “drop it!”. Say the command in sharp and firm tone to let him understand that you’re serious with the task and not playing with him. If he drops the toy after you gave the verbal command, reward him with praise in addition to the treat you are holding.

Reinforce the command at any moment of the day, with different things and in various parts of the house. If he is reliably trained with the command, start to substitute the food rewards with a lot of compliment and time to play to prevent him from turning out to be food dependent.

Mastering the drop it command is not only a trick to amuse other people and show them how effective a pet owner you happen to be.The main purpose of dog training is to keep your dog in control and to save him from possible risks like eating foreign objects or chewing household stuff.
